![]() Overall, she is learning the business of writing. She sets schedules for releasing new chapters and responds to fan email as well. Gracie is also aware of curated lists of fanfiction and applies to be included when she has a story that fits. She is keenly aware of how the covers she designs can drive audiences to her stories. She has even responded kindly to critics thanking them for input. On, Gracie tracks how many readers she has, what countries they are from, and whether they read an entire series, or just one installment. Hours have been invested in writing and posting her stories. I don’t think she had a name for this pastime until she was in 6th grade. Jones in new social situations and deciding what would happen if various characters across beloved books met. Gracie has been writing fanfiction since she was a little girl, placing Junie B. She answered the essay prompt, “What interest of yours would your college application be incomplete without?” When I think about how other students might answer this prompt, activities such as sports, clubs, volunteer work come to mind first, but her application would indeed have been incomplete without Alice. Her English teacher had encouraged her to use her passion for writing fanfiction to show college admissions boards her dedication and growth outside of school. Alice is a character she created for the Harry Potter universe in her fanfiction writing. “I’ve decided what to do for my college entrance essay! I’m going to write it as if I am having a conversation with Alice Potter.” My daughter Gracie (pen name) excitedly informed me she would place her chance to get into college squarely on the shoulders of Alice Potter. ![]()
